College and Conservatory Counseling
Powell Educational Counseling provides a range of support and services to college applicants and their families.
We seek to make the college search and admissions process one of discovery for the student. This should include personal reflection by the student on what they want and need from their college experience. We believe that it is vital to guide students toward the situation of best fit, rather than simply pursuing the schools with the most perceived prestige.
Our process acknowledges the stress and challenges that often accompany the college application and audition process. We work closely with the student, their family, and support network to clarify the process and increase communication to mitigate possible stressors at every step along the way.
Powell Educational Counseling can guide students and families through all aspects of the college search, application, audition, and decision process, including but not limited to:
- Developing and refining college application lists
- Initial evaluation of performance level and appropriateness for certain programs
- Application submission support
- Editing of essays, personal statements, artistic resumes, etc.
- Advice on connecting with the appropriate mentor studio teachers
- Prescreening recording assessment and support
- Audition preparation
- Financial aid counseling
- Consultation on making the final decision
All aspects of the college admissions process can be addressed with the individual student based on their particular needs. Full support packages to guide students and families throughout the entire process are also available. Students working with Dr. Powell have been admitted to top-tier conservatories, colleges, and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
